All I ever wanted was a big, strong man to make me feel safe. When you arrived, I felt like I began to soar. One of the things I always wanted to do was to go to Iceland to walk the Lava Fields and Switzerland to see the Alps. I had never been brave enough, but I feel unstoppable with you at my side.
We first stayed in Iceland for 10 days, swimming in the blue lagoon and walking the lava fields. We saw the Geothermal power plant Hellisheidi. I marveled at this clean energy engineering marvel. Using the planet's own heat to spin a turbine seems so simple, yet so Star Wars-age tech all at the same time. We saw the waterfall Gullfoss and spent plenty of time walking around the wilderness.
It’s incredible to me how safe it felt, and it is. Is this all I ever wanted in life? A brilliant, beautiful, and strong man to go live in the fields of Iceland with? To stare into the sky, look at all the stars and aurora, and relax as the sun sets early or the days when it never fully rises?
Most people would find that quite depressing, but I find it incredibly relaxing. Darkness is when all my senses can easily be focused and not scattered, as I often feel during bright daylight. I’d only known people to grumble about dark, cold, and quiet life, myself included. But was this maybe all my soul needed to feel at ease? A life of simple, quiet love. It got me thinking. A quiet, dark place to rest our heads when we weren’t in Italy might be just the thing.
After our serene 10 days in Iceland, it was time to fly to the Swiss Alps. We started in Geneva to see a friend, and then we headed up to the mountains. Nervous, I’d get dizzy, tired, or strained, so we began our trip. Every time I looked at you, I was comforted. I knew that even if you had to hold me all the way back down, I’d arrive safely, and you’d never leave my side.
I am normally a force of nature, but here, I’m just a small guy, no bigger than your average American. This was a new and different world where everything felt huge.
The most important thing I remember was the feeling of total bliss when we reached the observation deck of Gornergrat. It felt like we had been transported to another planet, and everything felt crisp and calm. It was worth it and no surprise. I felt safe and strong, proud of my bravery in getting here. I held your hand so proudly and looked over the view. Like typical Europeans, no one around even noticed us. It was so nice to just exist among others.
We spent the night before heading to our next destination, and I was more confident than ever that I could do anything. I still give you the credit, but you always tell me I could have done it all along. I guess we can both be right, you beautiful person. Thank you for believing in me.
