My love for my dogs is only surpassed by my love of family and my love of you. When I was having a tough day with work, you held my arms and looked me in the eye, and just like Luca, you said, “You know I love you, right?” My stress and fear melted away, and I collapsed into your chest (my head only reaches your chin, so it’s perfect when I need a really long hug).

You said, “Do you want pizza?” I said, “Of course I want Pizza.” In unison, we said, “With pineapple,” because is there any other way to eat it? No, no, there’s not. We hopped in the car to go to Whole Foods to get the ingredients. I was so excited that it was the first time I would eat pizza or something.

We came home, joking and being silly the entire time we were making food. Dinner was lovely, but the walk after dinner was special to me. It was just in time for sunset. My shitty day had led us to make dinner at a reasonable time for once. We had Miss K with us, and you two were being silly the whole way, making me smile. She did her Husky awoos the whole time, and you encouraged it. I loved it.

We all stopped to look out over the view of the sunset, K’s leash in my hand, your arm around me, and my head tucked into your arm. We just stayed there for what felt like a lifetime. It was serenity. My little family is so perfect, so serene, just moments after so much fun and silliness. This is what life is all about.
